Sagres

Sagres

Sagres is located in the municipality of Vila do Bispo and sits at the extreme western tip of Portugal, there is no place like it.

What makes Sagres so unique are the beautiful rock formations derived from the constant erosion of the sea waves and the chemical erosion of the rain.  This makes Sagres an excellent tourist spot, and it favors the practice of several activities, such as grotto tours, dolphin watching, and stand up.

But the highlight of Sagres is surfing. This is because being located on the tip, it is possible to have two coasts, west coast and a south coast This means, when the waves get too big on the west coast, here you can still surf on the south coast, with protection from the wind and the very big swells. Another reason is that the currents are always bringing clean, cold water, and adding the fact that there are several beaches to choose from, the region has become a Mecca for surfers.

The main beaches in Sagres are: Praia da Baleeira, Praia do beliche, Praia do Telheiro and Praia da Marreta.

Other points worth visiting are Cabo São Vicente and Fortaleza de Sagres, both of which places usually receive a large number of visitors all year round.

In the case of Cabo São Vicente, visitation is free and it is open from 10 am to 5 pm. In the case of the Fortress, we recommend that you check the timetable, since in the summer the visit hours are extended, but generally, the visitation has a symbolic price of 3 euros.
